Greetings in Christ! I pray that the week is going well for you so far.
It's been a good week here at First Christian Church!
At the end of our morning worship service on Sunday, January 11th, we welcomed James Poole and his wife, Angela Lee, into the family of believers at FCC (they tell me they’ve already been immersed into Christ). They come to us from the recovery house located just down the street from the church building on Audubon Avenue.
I was excited to have our mid-week gathering at FCC resume on Wednesday, January 14th. If you aren't already involved, I would encourage you to make this part of your weekly schedule. We have a meal @ 6 pm and Bible study at 6:45 pm. Over the next few weeks, I will be leading a study on the Gospel of Mark.
Coming home a couple of weeks ago (Saturday, January 3rd), I noticed the first full moon of the year in the sky. It was impressive. This phase is called the "Wolf Moon," and it was reportedly brighter and larger than normal because it rose in conjunction with Jupiter.
When we consider the vastness of the universe, it is easy to feel small and insignificant.
I am blown away when I hear our massive and awesome outer space really is. Scientists say, in our galaxy alone, there are over one hundred billion stars like our sun. On top of that, there are likely over one hundred billion galaxies outside of ours.
Listen to what Psalms 8:1,3-5 (NASB) says: "Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, You who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place; What is man that You think of him, And a son of man that You are concerned about him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!"
God loves and values people so much. It's hard for us humans to fully comprehend it.
We are the PINNACLE of God's creation! Each of us is a MASTERPIECE made in the very image of God!
Let us all remember that when the enemy tries to lie to us that we are garbage and do not matter to God (or anyone). I think he (Satan) is jealous of the love God has for us. Let us also never forget how much our Heavenly Father loves and values us!
After all, in the battle we all face, the key to victory is having a secure mind like Jesus.
I'll be talking about this subject on Sunday, January 18th, in a sermon called, "THINKING like Jesus."
It would be great to see you at FCC this coming Sunday!
God Bless,
Greg Herriford
