Greetings in Christ, and I pray you are having a wonderful week!
I miss seeing everyone!
As we continue in this "Snow and Ice Armageddon," our parking lot at FCC is getting cleared. It has not been an easy process.
Our leaders here at FCC have worked very hard trying to get several inches of ice off the parking lot. Let us be very grateful to those men and their efforts! Many of the side streets (especially those around the church building), however, remain covered with a lot of ice.
Having said all of that, our hope and prayer is to get back to regular services this coming Sunday (February 8th). Stay tuned!
When we do get back to worship on Sunday mornings, I'm going to be continuing in my "Be Like Jesus" series of sermons. My next topic will be "Faithful Like Jesus."
Yesterday (02.05.26), we had the funeral of one of our dear ladies at FCC, Barbara Abshire.
Barbara and her husband of 52 years, Arthur, have been one of the anchors here at FCC for many years.
When I came to FCC in late 2022, the church was running low on both attendance and energy. The FCC congregation had just been through some rough times (COVID, etc).
The Abshires, though, were some of the people who had remained FAITHFUL and kept the church doors open.
Faithfulness is important. Faithfulness matters. And being faithful doesn't depend on how one feels.
I am very happy that Barbara Abshire remained faithful till the end of her earthly journey. She has been a great blessing to her family, friends, and community!
In the pages of scripture, we find many great examples of faithfulness.
Despite his flaws, David was known in Scripture as "a man after God's own heart." (1 Samuel 13:14) He was flawed, but faithful.
David was also one of the greatest leaders in the history of Israel.
What was David's key to success? One of the major keys was this: David knew that God was faithful. Because of God's faithfulness, David knew where he should go in good times, and, especially, in difficult times. We're blessed that we can read many of David's prayers as they are recorded in the Psalms. Listen to what David prayed and wrote in Psalms 18:1-6 (NIV):
"I love you, Lord, my strength. [2] The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. [3] I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. [4] The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. [5] The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. [6] In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears."
Whether in difficulty or success, let us try to follow David's example by seeking to build our lives on the foundation of the Lord through prayer and worship.
Let us remember the words to that great old church hymn,
Great is thy faithfulness O God my father
There is no shadow of turning with thee
Thou changest not thy compassions they fail not
As thou hast been thou forever will be oh will be
Have a great weekend. Stay safe out there. I pray that we are able to meet this Sunday at FCC!
I'm looking forward to seeing you again soon! Until then...
God Bless,
Greg Herriford
