Revive Us Again!

It seems like I’ve been in a whirlwind since coming on board at FCC in a full-time role beginning January 1st. I’ve not been in a full-time ministry role since 2015. I am enjoying it. Everything is going pretty well and I’m adjusting to the change.

As we look at the world around us, there are plenty of reasons to be concerned. We read news reports of our country and economy in big trouble. There is an ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. There are rumors of war in other parts of the world. Terrible earthquakes have rocked Turkey and Syria.

On the other hand, there is good news. God is still at work in our world. For example, just down the road in the little town of Wilmore, KY, a major revival is taking place. Starting at an Asbury University chapel service on February 8, a student-led revival began that saw over 50,000 people visit Wilmore over the next 13 days. Me and my family have some connections with Asbury as my daughter Autumn is a 2021 Asbury grad, is currently getting her Master’s there and lives in Wilmore. My family visited Autumn last Saturday (February 18) and it was crazy seeing thousands of people lined up for worship services! On Monday (February 20), campus officials had to wind down the revival on campus due to logistical issues. However, my prayer is that this revival will continue to spread across our nation. We need it in a major way!

I believe that revival is also happening here at FCC.

One evidence of this revival, I believe, is seeing many new faces at our services.

There should always be a feeling of joy whenever the church gathers. After all, if the church is going to represent Jesus to the world, then there ought to be a sweet spirit in the church. I am thoroughly convinced that it’s the Holy Spirit that makes Jesus and Christianity attractive to those in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the church can (and should) do things to be relevant with the surrounding society. However, the church can’t possibly keep up with the things of the world like Budget, Buildings/Venues, Technology and Entertainment. However, we have something that the world cannot offer -- we have the Holy Spirit of God.

I pray that the presence of the Holy Spirit will continue to be alive and well when our people assemble for times of worship and study.

BTW: I’m super excited about the new and improved website - www.fcclexky.com - that goes live on Friday, February 24th. The church has had a website for several years, but it has not been very active or timely. My goal is that this website will have valuable and updated information on it. I pray this will be an effective ministry tool for us here at FCC.

Pray for me next week (February 27-March 03). I’ll be in Florence, KY, in class as I work on finishing a Master’s Degree in Ministry Leadership from Central Christian College of the Bible. My class is “The Disciple Making Minister.” Remember that many of the things I’m learning and the assignments I’m doing for class are being put into practice here at FCC.

See you soon.

God bless,
Greg H
